Volkswagen recommends that its vehicles should be serviced every 10,000-miles, with the most comprehensive services coming at the 40,000-, 80,000- and 120,000-mile mark. (Note: The actual scheduled maintenance checks will vary based on vehicle model, model year and mileage. Please give us a call if you have any questions.) The VW maintenance schedules can best be described as oil change/safety inspection, minor service and major service.
Safety Inspection and Oil Service: This includes an oil/filter change and a safety check of your vehicle that includes crucial items including: brakes, indicator lights, belts and hoses, engine coolant, steering linkage, and suspension components. Additionally, our technicians will rotate the tires and inspect for fluid leaks, the wipers, tire pressure, horn, and the dashboard warning lights. A typical interval on a late model VW will be at 5,000-, 15,000-, 25,000-, 35,000 and 45,000-miles, etc.
Minor Service
Minor Service: To be completed at 10,000-, 40,000- an 70,000-miles is a little more involved and includes everything in the Safety Inspection as well as checking and replenishing all fluids, replacing the dust and pollen filters, inspecting the suspension system and tires for wear, inspect lights, exhaust system for damage, drive shaft boots, front and rear axle, ball joints and tie rod ends, transmission and final drive, as well as the undercarriage.
Major Service: To be completed at 40,000- and 80,000 miles, this service includes all the work above, in addition to checking the power steering fluid, replacing the air filter, fuel filter, clutch fluid, brake fluid and spark plugs, checking all lights, lubricating the door hinges, straps, locks and hood latch and sunroof.
